12 Steps toward Living an Empowered Life
Live with Passion- You should be passionate (to some degree) about what ensues in every area of your life, your career, your relationships, your activities. Take note of what aspects you are particularly passionate about and why, try to remind yourself of these things daily. Focusing on what you’re passionate about will automatically place you in an attitude of gratitude.
Be Present- Being in the moment allows you to act with more power and intention. Worrying about the future or feeling regret about the past serve you no purpose and will drag your mentality down. Be aware of your thoughts and make an effort to shift your focus back into the present moment if you start to go astray.
Take care of your body- Be aware of the foods you eat, staying hydrated, how active you are, how much sleep you are getting, the basics are too often neglected. Your body is your temple, treat it as such. You naturally cultivate more power with a strong body.
Meditate, Journal, Yoga- Try to incorporate at least one of these activities into your daily routine. Take baby steps if you have to, but make the effort. Mindfulness, self reflection and self care are so important!
Set Goals that excite you- Your goals in life should empower you to take consistent action. Create a 1 year goal list to start (along with a vision board if you’re so inclined). Be sure to set your goals in an attainable fashion (ie. you cannot earn a 4 year degree in one year, so include that in your 5 year goal list), but don’t limit yourself either, just remain realistic with time constraints. Set yourself up for success!
Set Boundaries- It is important that you set boundaries in all of your relationships, before committing to anything or anybody, ask yourself if this is something you really want to do, someone you really want to be around, or are you saying “Yes” out of obligation? Ask yourself if this person or activity will further empower you before giving the green light.
Cut out any negatives-Negative habits, negative relationships, negative self talk, In order to live an empowered life, you Must make an effort to live in a more positive fashion!
Prioritize your schedule and stick to it (the best you can), Stephen Covey’s Time Quadrant is a helpful tool if you’re feeling stuck…
Schedule “Me Time”- With the pressure of a hectic schedule, it is so easy to skip over “Me Time” as it can often feel indulgent at first. Once you realize how important the practice of self care is and the positive effects it brings, you will ensure to prioritize it into your daily routine.
Practice Positive Body Posture & Verbal Language- Sit up straight, Look people in the eye when you’re speaking to them, Walk with your head up and looking forward. Pay attention to the words you speak, “I can’t”, “Um” and any other negative or unnecessary lingo should be replaced with more positive, assertive verbiage.
Cultivate Confidence - Tony Robbins once said “You can be competent, but it does nothing if you’re not confident”. If you feel you’re lacking in confidence, there are a few things that will help you to gain more in no time! Positive reminders (write down a list of things you like about yourself, starting with “ I am ______”) , Create a mantra or affirmation (ie. Everyday in every way, I am getting stronger and stronger), Emotion is created by motion, ensure that your posture is straight, smile when you feel yourself frowning, “Fake it until you Make it” ,Move with confidence and you will undoubtedly start to feel more so.
Continue Moving forward- Try to find silver lining in each situation. Your perception of any given situation in life makes all the difference in how you will navigate through it. If you feel you’re being challenged, try to find the lesson in it and be grateful for the strength you’re gaining. You have the ability to shape and empower your life in any given moment, so long as you stay aware!
